My Grandad has just spent 2 weeks on Horndon ward, Basildon Hospital, with an infection. The overall care and communication with the family was disgusting. My Grandad is a deteriorating Parkinson’s patient so as soon as he was admitted we felt anxious, as we knew he would be confused and scared. Obviously due to the current restrictions with Covid 19, we knew we wouldn’t be allowed to visit him and fully respected that, however a regular update was all we asked for. Unfortunately the Ward was non compliant with this and when we called they was rude and very dismissive, always ‘too busy’ or doing the ‘drug round’. The Nurses and Doctors showed no compassion for my Grandad or my families situation. At one point we was told by the Nurse in Charge that they had been escalating him to the Dr since Friday and no one had reviewed him yet (this was on the Monday - so 4 days!!). He was isolated in a side room due to the type of infection he had and left there to deteriorate. He became dehydrated and was left catheterised even though he was mobile (so could go to the toilet) and to add to our concern I was told he had been trying to pull the catheter out (which could cause him trauma and even more distress). On one of the occasions we spoke to him over the phone he didn’t know where he was and said he was in prison and had been tied up for hours. Obviously we know with the Parkinson’s comes confusion, however on speaking to the staff their dismissive attitude did not leave my family feeling very reassured. Unfortunately when this was escalated to PALS and even they did not act accordingly. So it was like banging our head against a brick wall. The only good I can report is that the physiotherapists on the ward were excellent, spent time with grandad getting him back on his feet and we’re brilliant in calling my Aunt to give regular updates- so thank you very much to the physiotherapists on Horndon ward, you gave my family that little bit of reassurance that kept us going!!!! I have heard bad reviews about the elderly care at Basildon but didn’t think we would experience it first hand!! If my poor Grandad ever has to go to Hospital again it will NOT be at Basildon!

I’ve been in absolute agony since April 2020 due to gastro issues. Dr Mazah has basically just left me sit in unimaginable pain which has resulted in me attending A&E 3 times! Missed a call from her today by a split second and she didn’t even bother to call back, despite me waiting for a review since March 2020! Switch board staff are rude and unhelpful! I’ve been calling the gastro department for over an hour and now answer! I would not recommend this dr!

Having had a heart attack as we went into lock down, it was quite daunting not knowing what to expect. With a family history of heart disease at no time did I ever expect to go through a heart attack so young. Living in Havering I did not expect to be taken to Basildon for my heart attack, and never been to this hospital before I didn’t know what to expect However the cardiac treatment I received in the Cardio Thoracic clinic was unbelievable. The staff were brilliant and informative, and they wasted no time getting me sorted with a stent. From the nursing staff to the consultants everything was done in a professional caring manner. The after care on the ward again was brilliant, everything was explained to me what had happened and going forward post heart attack. I have had cardiac rehab sessions with my cardiac rehab nurse Zoe over the phone for a period of time, and the sessions have been so informative and helpful. I have had the opportunity to ask questions regarding my heart attack, ask about the drugs, and my pending Cardiac MRI next month. Even down to taking about my own personal rehab of exercise and diet. It’s been such a great opportunity to have this by telephone . All this information has been very reassuring knowing that I am in the right place for my treatment and care. I could not ask for better care from this hospital. Thankyou Basildon CTC for your care and professionalism in every aspect

I had a operation at this hospital in May and stayed for one night. The Nurses and all other Staff were exceptional. They looked after me with great care and consideration. I felt that the hospital has a lovely atmosphere for a hospital and the staff from reception to the nurses who looked after me seem to take great care in making everyone feel like nothing was a problem. I would definitely consider going here if I needed any care in the future.

I had a Parathyroidectomy at the end of April 2019. Mr T.Jeddy performed the surgery and I couldn't have been treated better if I had chosen to go private. From pre-op to discharge from his care I knew I was safe hands. He is an extremely professional competent surgeon who keeps you informed at all times and puts you at ease.I had no post op pain and I put this down to his skills as a surgeon.I only have a very small scar which is fading every day and in fact some of my friends didn't even realise that I had my surgery.I would have no hesitation to ask my G.P to be referred back to him should I need surgery in the future.

2 Biopsies were inconclusive and Mr T Jeddy suggested 1/2 my thyroid be removed and analysed for the possibility of cancer. I had total confidence in My Jeddy and 3 months after the op I have been discharged. There is no cancer and I am operating fine on the remaining 1/2 with no meds. Much relieved to have been explained the steps leading up to the op.
